Special needs children assemble a turkey entirely made with fruit following the visual instructions in the picture gallery here. This is a fairly simple activity, but be careful since the toothpicks can be pointy and sharp.
Your child will be showered with compliments when your family and friends see these adorable fruit turkeys crafted specially for the thanksgiving dinner table.
1 red pear, 1 date
4 green grapes
4 purple grapes
6 mandarin slices
All these fruits are easy to insert a toothpick through.
Adult: Place the pear in a suitable bowl that is sturdy to keep the pear from rolling.
Child: Make the adorable fruit turkeys using the pictures in the slide show below.
This craft for the special needs child is adapted from the gobbling turkey apples craft at http://www.makeandtakes.com/gobbling-turkey-apples.
This turkey is entirely made of fruit. Pears were chosen because they are easier to poke through the skin. Apples have firmer skin than pears. You can choose fruits that are more popular in your family. You can use different kinds of soft candy, pretzel sticks, carrot sticks. celery, etc. Use toothpicks as connectors.
I hope you enjoyed Special Needs Children Create: A Fruit Turkey for Thanksgiving. You can cook both simple and complicated projects with a special child as long as you break the activity down into steps. Have fun!
